TURKISH HEALTH MINISTER PROF. DR. RECEP AKDAĞ’s PRESENTATION 13 Nov
Prof. Dr. Recep Akdağ, Minister of Health Turkey was the guest speaker at the TBCCI business briefing on November 13, 2007. The Minister said that the 70 000 bed capacity needed for Turkish hospitals would be provided with the Public Private Partnership model used in the UK, and for further improvements in the health services, administrative barriers would be reduced. He added that irrespective of the rehabilitation progresses in health services, increase in the number of doctors was a paramount issue. TBCCI Health & Safety services
The TBCCI, in association with the Essex Chambers of Commerce, will launch in January 2008 a new custom built ‘Health & Safety Online Course’ in both English and Turkish language versions.
Turkey: Nuclear Energy
As an energy provision initiative, the Turkish parliament passed a bill this month for the establishment and operation of nuclear power plants and the sale of energy in Turkey. Turkish Electricity Trade & Contract Corporation (TETAS) will open a tender for construction of nuclear power plants.

Turkish Wine Tasting
A Turkish Wine Tasting event was held in London on October 15, 2007, hosted by TasteAnatolia magazine in conjunction with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, bringing together the leading wine producers of Turkey with the British wine press, wine merchants and wine experts. Turkish Banking
According to Turkey's Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency BRSA (Bankacılık Düzenleme ve Denetleme Kurumu BDDK), about 46% of total banking sector assets in Turkey are now partially owned by foreign investors; this ratio being 8.1% for assets wholly owned by foreign investors. Less than 50% of total banking assets in the Turkey are held by domestic investors. Tayfun Bayazit, Chief Executive Officer of Yapi Kredi Bank, Turkey's fourth largest privately-owned commercial bank by asset size, said that supervisory standards and risk regulations brought in by BRSA have improved substantially and that international players that have expedited the process. Trade Logistics
The World Bank has produced a study on comparative analysis of logistics performance of exporting-importing countries, referring to criteria such as the time taken between the submission of an accepted customs declaration and customs clearance, from shipper to port of loading, from port of discharge to consignee, from port of discharge to consignee, and total cost to transport and port services. Registration of Medicines and Medical Equipments in Turkey
All medicines and medical equipments including active implantable medical devices introduced into Turkish domestic market shall be registered with the national database from 1 January 2008 by the ordinance of the Turkish Ministry of Health. In order to register a medicine/device, the distributor is required to provide the Global Location Number (universal bar code) obtained from the Producer (not from the importer or the distributor). Denton Wilde Sapte extends to Algeria
Denton Wilde Sapte, member of the TBCCI, has extended its African associate network to Francophone Africa with the addition of Algerian law firm, Cabinet Hadj-Hamou et Djouadi becoming amongst the first UK law firms to create a formal association in Algeria.
