Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to London
The Prime Minister of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, met Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, Abdullah Gul arrived from Washington on Tuesday, 3rd October at 3:05 am at Heathrow Airport. The Turkish Minister of State and the Chief EU Negotiator, Ali Babacan also arrived from Turkey to join the meeting. The meeting was organised on the anniversary of the formal start of the Turkey-EU negotiations. It emerged that Turkey-EU relations and Cyprus and Middle East issues were discussed at the meeting.
After the meeting which began at 10 am and lasted 1 hour 20 minutes, a British government spokesperson announced that Tony Blair had expressed his continuing support for Turkey’s EU membership. During their EU presidency last year, the UK had played a vital role in the last minute negotiations for the go-ahead for the Turkey-EU talks. Sir Peter Westmacott, HMA Ambassador in Turkey, who will be leaving his ambassadorship in Turkey in near future, also came from Ankara to attend the meeting. Click here to view photos

UK-TURKEY TRADE
Total UK-Turkey trade increased by 3.8% in August this year. In the January-August period, the trade between the two countries achieved an increased of 10.6%.
