Mr Andy Berrow, Regional Manager For Business Link in London, gave an interview to the Chamber Newsletter. Mr Berrow discussed the services provided by ‘Business Link in London’ and its associations with government departments, agencies and local authorities such as Regional Development Agencies and the LDA. At the interview, he also talked about the current challenges faced by small and medium enterprises SMEs and how Business Link in London addresses the key issues involved in running business in the UK and in particular in London in the context of the current economic climate. UK 2008 Macroeconomic Indicators
British economy has slowed down by 1.5% and 0.6% in the last two quarters of 2008. For the full year 2008, UK economy rose by 0.7% as compared to 2007.

EXPORT IMPORT NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

EU Duty Suspension Scheme for UK Importers
The Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) have reminded UK importers about the Tariff Suspensions Scheme which allows the duty free importation into the Community of raw materials, components and semi-finished products which cannot be supplied (or supplied in sufficient quantities) from Community sources and used in a process to make another product. Textiles and Ready Made Garments Exports to Turkey: Exporter Registry Form
Exporters who export textile and ready made garments to Turkey must complete an Exporter Registry Form, as is a part of new form that importers of these products in Turkey must submit to Turkish authorities. Exporters must fill this form and have it certified for each different importing company or importing person in Turkey.

New regulations on Exporting certain goods and products to Turkey
New export-import procedures have been announced by Turkish authorities for the export of goods to Turkey in the categories listed below:

If these goods declared in Free Circulation on the A.TR document do not originate in European Union countries, a Letter of Conformity will be required or the goods may be subject to product safety control at the time of importation. Customs will allow these goods accompanied by a Letter of Conformity or a letter attesting that the goods do not fall under the scope of the protocol. 2008 Trade results
The highest trade volume between the UK and Turkey was realised in 2007, the export import total between the two countries reaching 14.1 billion US Dollars. Even further increase was achieved over 2007 in the first two Quarters of 2008, but reflecting the economic climate in the second part of the year, the trade between the countries declined sharply particularly in the 4th quarter.
Turkey’s ranking among UK’s export and import partners:
17th largest in terms of volume in 2008, and
5th in annual average growth rate ranking between 2001 and 2008.

TURKISH ENTREPRENEURS WORLD CONGRESS

Turkish Entrepreneurs World Congress will be held on 10-11 April 2009 in Istanbul. The congress, which will be attended by Ministers of Turkey will be hosted by the Turkish Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade and the Foreign Economic Relations Board, DEIK, on 10-11 April 2009 in Istanbul. The congress language will be Turkish. The Congress, under the motto ‘Turkey, Global Power’, will hold elections to the ‘World Turkish Business Council’ and achieve a corporate structure to the assembly of the Turkish entrepreneurs worldwide. The number of visits to the TBCCI website was nearly 300,000 in 2008. A visitor is counted only when bringing up more than one page. In the first two months of this year, January-February 2009, the number of visits to the TBCCI website was 52,709; 28.7% higher than the same period last year.
